Life Is A Highway

No really, our life was literally a highway in SO many ways last week!  We randomly woke up the Monday before last and decided it was time to come home for the summer.  With John's sickness and some advice from family, we literally packed up in just a few hours and left our little summer home for good.  We stopped in Des Moines to see my sister before we left, and decided to make the most out of our journey back west.  Arkansas, where John served his mission, is nine hours south of Iowa, and then it's a straight shot of 23 hours to Las Vegas where John's family lives.  On the way to Las Vegas we would have to pass through Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where John's brother Bobby is serving his mission.  We figured, how often in our life are we going to get to go on a big road trip on the spur of the moment?  So we took the opportunity and off we went!

Our last picture together in Cedar Rapids, in front of the river.  We were very happy that day, so excited to take off!
It was a cloudy day leaving my birthplace, and as excited as I was to leave Cedar Rapids,  I still cried.  A big part of me loves Iowa, and I have so many fond memories with family and friends there.
Made it to Missouri!
Made a little detour to Adam-Ondi-Ahman :)
YAY!
Great food, great people in Arkansas.  I am excited to go back.
Then we stopped in Oklahoma and took Bobby out to dinner on his mission.  It was really good to see him and we had a great time :)

After this we went through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and finally made it to Nevada.  It was such a fun trip and we had a blast.  We realized that this would probably be the only time in our lives we can make random, spontaneous trips to anywhere we wanted.  It was a trip we will always remember!  We are now in Las Vegas visiting before we head back to Utah for school and real life again.  I am so lucky to have such a great husband who is adventurous and loves me like John.  He is my best friend and there is no one else I'd rather be on this journey with!

Love, Katie
